Education at the English Preparatory School
The medium of instruction at Yeditepe University is English. An English proficiency exam is held prior to the beginning of every academic year, in accordance with the date, time and venue announced by the Rector's office. Students who score the specified minimum scores in the international language assessment exams below are considered exempt from the English Preparatory Programme:
TOEFL (IBT) – 79 (TOEFL scores are valid for 2 years.)
Students who want to submit a TOEFL score are expected to take the exam at the following institutions:
Boğaziçi University, ISTANBUL
Turkish American Association, ANKARA
Exam results from other institutions are not accepted.
Those students who take the TOEFL exam are required to enter 7050, the TOEFL institution code for Yeditepe University, for direct reporting of scores to the English Preparatory School. TOEFL scores that are not sent directly to Yeditepe University Preparatory School by the TOEFL Administration (ETS) will not be accepted as valid. Students who do not provide valid documents that report the minimum accepted scores by the university are required to take the English Proficiency Test administered by the English Preparatory School.

Students who score a minimum of 60 out of 100 go to their faculties. Students who have not achieved the specified minimum score on the proficiency exam are required to take the placement exam and attend the English Preparatory School. The English Preparatory School programme consists of four modules. The duration of each module is 8 weeks. The number of teaching hours for each module is 28 per week.
Levels at the English Preparatory School:
B-2: (Prep Exit)
Students who are placed at module A-1 study modules A-2, B-1 and B-2 respectively and can complete the Preparatory School Programme in one academic year.
At the end of modules A-1, A-2 and B-1 a module exit exam, and at the end of module B-2 the prep exit exam are administered. All students with a minimum of 60 (out of 100) module exit exam score and minimum of 60 (out of 100) GPA are considered successful on the condition that they have fulfilled the attendance requirements.
The GPA consists of in-class performance scores, a monthly exam score and module/prep exit exam score. Students who complete their module successfully continue their studies in the next module. If they fail, they are required to repeat the module.
Students who complete module B-2 successfully start their studies in their faculty. If they fail, they are required to repeat the module.
Students may study in the English Preparatory School for up to two academic years. Those who cannot complete the programme successfully at the end of two years have the option to defer enrolment for one year. The registration of students who do not defer enrolment at the end of two years or those who defer enrolment for one year but cannot pass the proficiency exam will be cancelled.
Those whose registration is cancelled because they have not successfully completed the programme (excluding those who are students of English Language Teaching, Translation and Interpreting Studies, English Language and Literature and Turkish Language and Literature departments) have the right to be placed at a Turkish medium university in the same department by ÖSYM according to criteria determined by YÖK based on their university entrance exam score.
Student attendance is obligatory at the English Preparatory School.
