Course Objectives: 

The course aims for students to perceive the main evolution of Turkish administration.

Course Content: 

The aim of this course is to examine Islam, Seljuk, and Roman heritage as the origins of administration in Turkey and public administration at the last period of the Ottoman Empire. It will focus on the basic administrative mechanisms of this period. The territorial system, provincial organization, foundations, Ottoman Millet system, Tanzimat period, political and social transformation period, modernization of administration are among the topics to be addressed within the course. The course will be completed by the analysis of the origins of the Republic and characteristics of the state tradition in Turkey.
