The mission of the Department of Tourism Management within the Faculty of Economy and Administrative Sciences is to educate and graduate well equipped top level future managers and entrepreneurs for Turkish economy’s leading industry, tourism, and all other related sectors.

Our department differs from similar educational programs elsewhere in many aspects. The academic staff consists of professionals who bring with them many years of hands on experience in the industry with strong contacts establishing a category of its own.

Our students not only develop themselves in the hospitality dimension of tourism but graduate with rich information and education specialising in  other sectors of tourism; ranging from Travel Planning, Airline Industry Operations, to Logistics and Hotel Management.

The Department of Tourism Management gives education in the following four tracks:

1. Hospitality (Hotel Management)

2. Transportation (all forms but specialising in Air Transportation)

3. Sales Marketing Distribution (Travel Agencies, Tour Operators, all intermediaries)

4. Support Systems (third party Logistics firms of the industry behind the scenes)

which increases the employment opportunties of our graduates.

The industry background of our academic staff enables our department to give a better education to our future graduates, with online simulation management courses, seminars, airport and hotel visits, as well as local and international distinguished guest speakers, enabling our students to learn about the industry and get better equipped for their future careers.

To give our graduates another competitive edge our program provides the opportunity of learning a second  foreign language.

Quality in Tourism Education

The Tourism Management Department of our Faculty, being in constant development and improvement in education, was twice awarded  the "SKALİTE" Quality in Tourism Education Award (in  year 2011 and 2013), selected by the votes of 980 tourism industry professionals in Turkey, forming the Turkish chapter of SKAL (World Tourism Industry Professionals Association, headquartered in Paris).

Through the Online Simulation Management courses administered by professional educators from the industry; concepts like Company Formation, Management, Competitive Edges, Profit and Loss, Sustainability, etc. are acquired through “live” online experiences.

Internship/Trainee programs out in the field, where the students further solidify the theoretical material that they learn in the classrooms, give them a strong base and enables them to network and establish personal contacts in the industry, which helps them get employed at times even before graduation.

It is an exciting time to be in International Finance. Before we discuss the highlights of the Yeditepe International Finance program, we should clarify what we mean by Finance. Finance is at the heart of every business activity. It is also the impetus behind widespread technological development that is interconnecting markets worldwide, changing the business world, and changing Finance along with it. There are new business models, new financial products and services to support them, new ways to deliver them, and new financial models to understand and direct all of these. And yet as technology and Finance continue to develop and evolve in novel ways, the core principles remain the same. It is easy to forget the basics in the midst of the new developments, but then we end up in crises. Examples would include the dot-com bubble around 2000 when we thought companies no longer needed cash flows or profitability; the 2008 global crisis where we thought house prices will always go up; the recent geopolitical tensions and the pandemic, external factors which have affected the economy severely enough that temporary solutions proposed now include negative or zero interest rate policies, and even a modern monetary theory with potentially unlimited money.

So what is finance? The simple view is that finance is about making money. And everyone wants more money. A little thought will show that it is about making money by creating value. If money were unlimited, we would all be rich and also poor because no one would need to create anything useful to earn money.

We can make money by creating some product or service and selling it. We could establish a company for this. Of course we would need money to operate the company, and money is limited and costly. How much money the company needs, where to obtain it, and how to allocate it to different activities such as marketing to promote our product, research to improve it, and new manufacturing facilities to produce it more efficiently,  all these decisions come under Corporate Finance.

On the other hand if you already have some money, you could invest it in companies and then get a return on your investment. How much money to invest in which companies or assets, and whether to lend it or to obtain equity, such questions are under Investments and Portfolio Management.
The two sides meet in financial markets where buyers and sellers of funding come together in a competitive environment and determine the optimal distribution given supply and demand for financial resources, helping reduce the costs of funds for companies while reducing the risk for investors. As conditions change and new information is revealed to the markets, so does the optimal balance point. Billions of dollars change hands every day as investors buy and sell in response to such news and market movements 24/7, in global markets.

So it is exciting to be a part of finance when technology has created new industries, new business models, and innovative financial products that help us reduce risk and increase our returns while being able to access global markets. Today the competition for obtaining, or providing funds is on a global scale. We should be able to research and add African corporate bonds, and options for companies listed in New York, to our portfolio as easily as buying a stock on the Istanbul stock exchange. We can borrow in dollars at lower rates, but then as companies learnt recently if our earnings are in TL we can get in trouble if the exchange rate fluctuates. A trade dispute between the US and China can both disrupt our markets, and provide new opportunities for our companies. In today's world it is impossible to fully understand technological, economic, and geopolitical trends and developments, be they local or global, without an appreciation of the financial motivations of actors in global markets.

Turkish financial managers are used to dealing with rapid changes, and many international companies have found this expertise useful when faced with fast-changing conditions and crises in the recent past. Our program is designed to equip you to fulfill the needs of a variety of local and global financial institutions in areas such as banking, insurance, auditing, investments and civil-service; as well as for corporate management in all sectors.

Finance may evoke many images but in the end it is about people, our society, and what we make of the world we live in. We also hope you will use what you learn and experience here to be an active part of change on the global stage, to help us create a better system where we not only generate more wealth but do so in a way that preserves our planet and perhaps distributes the benefits more equitably.

"Logistics" refers to the effective and efficient planning, application and control of the flow of materials, services and information for responding to the needs and demands of customers (from the point where raw materials for production are acquired, to the point where the manufactured products are delivered to the consumers.) In line with the development of the logistics sector in our country, the demand for a workforce of experts who are specialized in Logistics and Transportation has increased and continues to grow. Realizing this demand, our University commenced the Undergraduate Program in Logistics and Transportation in 2001. Our aim is to provide the necessary educational upbringing for future business professionals who are specialized in the management of Logistics and Transportation related operations in firms that are involved in the production and/or trade of goods.

The Department of International Logistics and Transportation uses its close connections with the leading firms in the sector for educating its students with a curriculum that's constantly updated in line with the latest sectoral experiences and developments. The Department also gives its students the ability to specialize in a specific field of Logistics through the customized selection of elective courses.

The Department's Academic Program has an interdisciplinary structure. Apart from providing detailed information regarding the topics in the fields of Logistics and Transportation, the course curriculum also covers many topics in the fields of Business Administration and Commerce. The students are also given the opportunity to learn two or more foreign languages, which will increase their chances of finding jobs in a wide range of public/private sectors and domestic/foreign companies. Our graduates can work in national or international Logistics and Transportation companies, or can be employed in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) departments of diverse types of firms as experts or managers. Therefore, a wide range of employment opportunities, job positions and sectors are available for our graduates.

The International Logistics and Transportation Program is suitable for students who are pursuing an active career in the related fields and who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills for success in the global economic environment. The rapidly growing Turkish logistics sector offers numerous opportunities for graduates who have been educated to become business professionals in this field, which has a large demand for a specialized workforce of experts and managers. Also, new laws and regulations have made it obligatory for international logistics and transportation firms to employ managers who have sector-specific university diplomas, to make sure that they have the necessary educational background, knowledge, skills and expertise that are required in these fields.

Our Department also offers Double Major or Minor programs for students in other Departments within Yeditepe University. Our graduates can continue their studies at Yeditepe University's Graduate School of Social Sciences, which offers several Master's Degree (with/without thesis) and Ph.D. Degree Programs, or at other universities in both Turkey and abroad. For graduates who would like to establish their own companies operating in this sector, having an educational background in the field will be a major advantage.

What is Logistics Management?

Logistics aims to provide services to many companies in sea, air and land transportation, with the aim of creating easier access to common markets in the globalizing world. Many companies serving in this field need trained personnel in order to appeal to a wider audience and raise their standards. In meeting this need, the "Logistics Management Department" responds to the needs of the sector by providing all the necessary training.

The logistics management department within the Department of Economics and Administrative Sciences is a department that aims to train the manpower needed by both manufacturers and commercial enterprises in the best possible way. Candidates who want to be students of this department must graduate from equally weighted departments of the relevant schools. In the department, which offers a wide range of job opportunities, people have the opportunity to work in different sectors. The key task of logistics personnel working in businesses is to ensure that work is carried out in an orderly, efficient and safe manner, and to carry out storage and goods distribution within a certain program. In addition, preparing the orders coming to the company on time and sending them to the relevant places is also within the job descriptions of this area. Areas where they can work include specialized distribution companies, ports and large warehouses, manufacturing companies, commercial organizations and retail businesses. Graduates of the department, who have the opportunity to work in a wide range of fields, may also have the opportunity to work in the public sector by taking the relevant exams.

Studying Logistics Management at Yeditepe University

The logistics management department is extremely important in creating a safer distribution in businesses. It is the field where a wide range of services are provided, starting from the end of the production process of the products to their delivery to the consumer. Receiving training in this field allows people to work more organized and also ensures that distribution channels and storage activities in the private sector are carried out professionally. Personnel who provide services in areas such as storage after production, transportation of products to vehicles, transportation to relevant places and re-storage activities when necessary receive the best training in their fields.

There is a great need for graduates of the logistics management department to ensure rapid operation in the trade sector, which is an important area of the globalizing world. The gradual disappearance of global borders makes it necessary for these people to work abroad. During the training, students not only learn all the information they need to use in their field, but also learn to follow technology closely, adapt these developments to business life, and provide service at much better standards with modern systems. The department, which educates individuals who improve their business and are always open to innovation, helps students become logistics personnel who are experts in their fields.

During the training, students who take basic introductory courses receive completely career-oriented training in other classes. In courses where the concepts of warehousing, integration and logistics are expressed in the best way, students have the opportunity to learn their own departments in detail. In the department where courses such as Logistics Law and Information Technologies are given emphasis, English language training is also provided successfully. Students who learn a second language during their education graduate from their departments fully equipped. In addition, students of the department, whose education is supported by internship programs during the summer periods, have the opportunity to apply the theoretical lessons they have learned during the semester in practice. During the program, each student is required to learn two foreign languages and do internships in two different places.

What Does a Logistics Management Graduate Do? Where Do They Work?

There is a wide sector distribution in terms of job opportunities for logistics management graduates. Graduates have the opportunity to find employment in many trade and production enterprises operating both nationally and internationally. Students who can work as logistics and warehousing personnel in their own fields can, over time, work in middle and senior management positions in the institution they work for.

Graduates who gain experience in a private company can set a higher career goal by establishing their own logistics company in the future. In addition, they can work in purchasing departments of companies or be one of the sought-after people in smart storage and distribution units. Department graduates who can continue their careers in customs companies may also have the opportunity to work in manufacturing companies, ports, warehouses and retailers.

When graduates of the logistics department master a foreign language, they can work in companies abroad and gain career opportunities in the international arena. Graduates of the department can also take civil servant selection exams and have the opportunity to work in the state staff in their own field or in different fields. The majority of graduate candidates have achieved their career goals in the private sector.

Companies where Yeditepe Logistics management graduates work are DHL, CEVA Logistics, Ekol Logistics, UPS, FedEx, Maersk, etc. are listed as.

International Trade and Business is a rapidly developing multidisciplinary research field that is a result of the Global Age we live in. The aim of our field is to understand and analyze the processes and problems of the new global order created by Economic Globalization. Economic Globalization refers to the increase in relations between countries through international trade and capital movements over the past forty years. The main underlying factor behind this increase is rapid advancements in technology. On the one hand, new financial techniques and instruments create a global banking and financial system, while on the other hand, new production techniques, business models, and employment forms lead to a more integrated world economy. To the extent that a small change in the interest rate made by the United States due to its domestic policies can affect global financial markets. Similarly, the impact of the United States imposing taxes on a product imported from any country (such as China) can be reflected on numerous countries (for example, all of Europe or Southeast Asian countries) due to these complex connections. Globalization, as seen, presents challenges for our country in terms of economic, technological, political, and cultural dimensions, but at the same time, it also brings opportunities. Therefore, it is of great importance to examine and understand Economic Globalization in order to overcome these challenges and take advantage of the opportunities.

As a developing country, Turkey's ability to become an important player in this process depends on setting clear long-term and short-term goals and objectives (vision and mission) and updating them according to changing conditions. One of the most important elements in this process is for Turkey to have a well-educated workforce (human capital).

In this context, the aim of the International Trade and Business Department at Yeditepe University is to educate managerial candidates equipped with the necessary knowledge and techniques to understand and analyze this complex economic and social order, and who can operate in almost every sector, be it national or international. Our graduates embrace the values of their own countries, respect universal values, aim to constantly improve themselves, and contribute to their surroundings.

As the largest department of our Faculty of Commerce, we offer a contemporary and modern education and training program.

We can list the main features of our program as follows:

  • A program that is regularly updated in parallel with national and international developments.
  • We provide our students with education and diplomas that are compatible with the Bologna System and international standards.
  • In addition to English, students are required to learn a Second Foreign Language (German, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese).
  • Students can plan their education according to their areas of interest through Compulsory, Departmental Elective, and Free Elective course groups.
  • Wide range of opportunities for Double Major and Minor programs.
  • Opportunity for education in Europe through the Erasmus Program and the possibility of teaching with European students who come to our department through the Erasmus Program.
  • We provide students with the opportunity to gain experience in the business world and perhaps find employment after graduation through the Compulsory Internship program.
  • In our Finance Laboratory, where real-time market and company data are used, we offer students the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience in financial analysis and techniques.
  • Close collaboration between students and faculty members through Consultancy Services.
  • Opportunity to participate in social activities in addition to International Trade, Finance, and Logistics Clubs, through around 40 Student Clubs at the university.

Achieving the global level of development in agricultural management requires understanding and applying the concept of blockchain. Our aim to train students with knowledge and vision at every step of the journey from the field to international trade. We aim to achieve this goal by educating our students in business, management, commerce, technology, informatics, ecology, agriculture, food, and innovation with an interdisciplinary curriculum. What is the Department of Agricultural Trade and Management?

The Department of Agricultural Trade and Management aims to meet the required personnel capacity on a sectoral basis by providing training on many different subjects for the needs of Turkey, a predominantly agricultural country. In this department, students learn the trade of the products produced and the management process of the enterprises in this field by taking trade knowledge and primary agriculture and soil knowledge. Although the Department of Agricultural Trade and Management is a department with extremely high standards, it allows the work in the agricultural sector to be carried to a more global dimension and to do more consciously. Students who receive training on issues such as increasing the yield of agricultural plants grown in our country and sold to the world, and marketing these products to the world at higher standards, make significant contributions to agricultural trade.

It is easier for students to reach the desired level in the international arena by combining their knowledge in fields such as economy, trade, and business with their expertise in agriculture and soil. For this reason, student candidates who score above the base points of the Department of Agricultural Trade and Management have the chance to achieve a good career goal. Students who take different courses each academic year have the opportunity to train themselves in every field, from technology to accounting. At the same time, with the university's double major and minor options, it is possible to find a job in different fields. Students who have completed their high school education from the Equal Weight department can start to take the first steps of their career in this department of Yeditepe University.

The first year of education includes basic economics and economics courses and courses that form the foundations of soil science, environment, and ecology. In addition, studies on purchasing, storage, distribution, and computer programs are among the first-year courses. In addition, data processing studies are also given this year. In addition, courses on EU agricultural policy and customs union and practices on occupational health and safety are also among the second-year courses. Third-year courses include blockchain, agricultural law, international trade, and financial management, while courses on agricultural models, crop cultivation and conservation, and land and waste management are also among the third-year courses. There are courses on the basics of food microbiology and food safety in the second and fourth years. The third year of our curriculum includes two long-term internships at our contracted institutions. Highlights of Our Agricultural Trade and Management Department:

Our department has a unique curriculum prepared to train individuals who will contribute to the development of agriculture in line with the needs of our country by blending business and trade courses with soil, agriculture, and food courses. The richness and complementarity of our curriculum is the most prominent feature of our curriculum, but at least as important as long-term internships are included in the curriculum. While our students carry out the applications of the courses they will take during their education in the facilities and laboratories of our University, they will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned at school in public and private sectors with the two summer internships they must complete and the two long-term internships to be carried out in the third year, and they will have the chance to put their theoretical knowledge into practice in business life before they graduate.
