Course Objectives: 

This course's aim is to provide an understanding of Turkish democracy, Turkish politics, and the democratization process. The target of the course, the ability of a solid grasp of these subjects will help you better understand the underlying reasons for the structure of the Turkish political system and Turkish democracy.

Course Content: 

This course will serve as an introduction to Turkish politics and the democratization process. We will focus on major themes before the 1980 Military Coups. We will examine the key components of “politics” in the Turkish political system, including passing to democracy,  political parties, elections, constitutions, electoral participation, civil-military relations, military coups, and interventions. A solid grasp of these subjects will help you better understand the underlying reasons for the structure of the Turkish political system and Turkish democracy.
