Course Objectives: 

The aim of this course is to introduce you to the literature on regional policy and to equip you with analytical tools necessary to understand the changing spatiality of the state in Turkey. Throughout the course, the international examples, and especially the case of the European Union countries will be discussed. By investigating the contents of regional policies and the institutional structures of regional development in the capitalist countries, and the EU in particular, the course aims to give you a perspective on future public policy agenda in Turkey, as well as the trends in the restructuring process of the Turkish administrative system.

Course Content: 

This course includes the concept of region, the institutional structure of regional development policies, regional development agencies and their role in regional development, European regional policy and practices of local governments regarding regional development as well.
