Z. Gökhan Ersoy, Research Assistant at Department of Public Administration, has presented his paper regarding conflictual politics of waste in Turkey in 22nd Annual Meeting of the Alternative Futures and Popular Protest Conference at Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester, UK (April 10-12, 2017).
Ersoy’s paper,‘Between National and Local Opportunity Structures: Conflicts over Siting Waste Facilities in Turkish Municipalities’, explores political opportunity structures between national and local level while documenting protest events taken place against waste infrastructures planning to construct or existing in operation by local authorities in Turkey. His paper provides an examination of claims, grievances, targets, frequency, location, dimensions, types and actors of those protest events.
