What is the purpose of the Department of International Trade and Business?

The purpose of the International Trade and Business Program is to educate knowledgeable, skilled, and well-equipped individuals in the fields of International Trade and International Business who can operate effectively in the global business environment. As the medium of instruction in the International Trade and Business Bachelor's Program is English, our graduates possess excellent English language skills. Throughout the program, students are also taught at least one additional foreign language, making them ready to succeed in an international setting.

Furthermore, the International Trade and Business Program students graduate as individuals who are proficient in various technological advancements, particularly in computer skills. The overall objectives of the program include fostering students to become expressive, entrepreneurial, and creative individuals. The program is designed with the awareness that well-educated and confident individuals can hold managerial positions in the global environment, enabling companies to thrive under the guidance of competent managers.

In Turkey, a country opening up to the world, there is a great demand for professionals who can realize this expansion. The program graduates possess the qualities most needed in Turkey during this period of globalization, with their proficiency in foreign languages, knowledge, and skills. The value of students completing this program is significant, and there is a need for graduates in Turkey's early stages of globalization efforts.

To ensure that our students can successfully apply the managerial and professional theoretical knowledge they acquire in their careers, we implement an intensive internship program. Thanks to these intensive internship programs, many of our students receive job offers from the companies they interned at while still being students. They can start their careers immediately after graduation without going through a post-graduation job search period.

In today's rapidly globalizing world, where all businesses have an international dimension, the job opportunities for International Trade and Business graduates are vast. Our graduates can work in multinational global companies, international auditing firms, international banks and insurance companies, the finance and service sector, international mergers and acquisitions, company valuation consultancy firms, as well as in all levels of domestic and foreign companies engaged in export and import activities.

How long is the compulsory internship?

When our International Trade and Business Department students complete their sixth semester, they are required to do a term internship. Mandatory internships last for 30 business days. Is there an opportunity for double major in the International Trade and Business Department?

Students in the International Trade and Business Department have the opportunity to pursue a double major or minor with certain departments within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and other faculties.

To apply for the double major program, students must do so in the earliest third and latest fifth semester of their registered program (International Trade and Business).

For a student's double major application to be accepted, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Successful completion of all courses in the registered major program (International Trade and Business) up to the time of application.
  2. Attainment of a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.00 (3.25 for starting the minor program with a scholarship) in the major program at the time of application.
  3. Obtaining a placement score for the double major program, which should not be lower than the minimum base score for the relevant year.

For programs that admit students through a talent exam, the student must also pass the talent exam successfully to be accepted into the double major diploma program.

Simultaneous registration for multiple second major programs is not allowed. However, simultaneous registration for a second major diploma program and a minor program is allowed. When a student in the double major program meets the requirements for horizontal transfer within the higher education institution in the major program, they can transfer horizontally to the second major diploma program.

During the double major study, the student's cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for the second major can temporarily drop to 2.50 at most once. If the CGPA drops below 2.50 for the second time, the student's registration in the second major diploma program will be canceled. If a student does not take any courses for two consecutive semesters in the double major program, their registration in the second major program will be canceled.

To graduate from the second major program, the student must have a minimum CGPA of 2.70 for the second major and fulfill the graduation requirements of the programs. If the student continues in the double major program and graduates from the primary major program, they will be awarded a second diploma for the second major program. If a student graduates from their primary major program but has incomplete requirements in the second major program, the period of study can be extended for up to two semesters by the decision of the management board of the faculty where the second major diploma program is located. However, in double major programs with a heavy credit load, an additional extension of one or two more semesters may be granted if necessary. A second diploma will be awarded to students who are enrolled in the bachelor's program and complete the double major bachelor's program after obtaining the right to graduate from their registered bachelor's program.

Is there an opportunity for double minor in the International Trade and Business Department?

Application for the minor program can be made in the earliest third and latest sixth semester of the registered program (International Trade and Business).

For a student to be accepted into the minor program, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Successful completion of all courses in the registered major program (International Trade and Business) up to the time of application.
  2. At the time of application for the minor program, the student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.50 in the major program (International Trade and Business).
  3. Students applying for a scholarship for the minor program must have a CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00.

Simultaneous registration for multiple second minor programs is not allowed. However, simultaneous registration for a second major diploma program and a minor program is allowed.

To continue in the minor program, the student must maintain a minimum CGPA of 2.30 in the major program (International Trade and Business). If a student fails to meet this requirement, their registration in the minor program will be canceled. Registration in the minor program will also be canceled if a student does not take any courses for two consecutive semesters.

To receive the minor certificate, the student must have a minimum CGPA of 2.30 in the major program (International Trade and Business). The minor certificate will be awarded to the student who continues in the minor program upon graduation from the primary major program (International Trade and Business).

For students who have completed the primary major program (International Trade and Business) but have incomplete requirements in the minor program, the period of study can be extended for up to two semesters upon the decision of the management board of the faculty where the minor program is located. However, if necessary due to a heavy credit load in the minor program, an additional extension of one or two more semesters may be granted.

After obtaining the right to graduate from the registered bachelor's program (International Trade and Business) and successfully completing the minor program, the student will receive the minor certificate.

International Trade and Business graduates have various career opportunities and job fields, including but not limited to working in foreign trade-related companies, the foreign trade departments of corporations, import and export departments, foreign transactions services of banks, customs and customs clearance companies, logistics firms, and insurance companies. Additionally, they can find employment opportunities in all sector institutions where graduates of Economics, Business, and Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences are employed.
