What is the main purpose of Yeditepe University Business Administration program?

The Department of Business Administration (BA) is located within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. The BA department educates their students as manager candidates who are capable of solving complex problems, think fast, have high EQ, are innovative, agile, make appropriate decisions and implement these decisions correctly. Our graduates have leadership qualities, are resilient and specialize in areas such as strategic management, marketing, entrepreneurship, accounting, and finance.  The main aim of the department is to provide students with competencies such as strategic thinking, entrepreneurial perspective, analytical thinking and being innovative, as well as managerial competencies.

Yeditepe University Business Department aims to educate its students as graduates who are competent to work at different levels and departments of national & multinational companies or to establish and manage their own companies. With its dynamic and contemporary academic program, it aims to provide its students with intellectual, multidisciplinary and multicultural management competencies. Our department consists of a strong and distinguished full time academic staff who have completed their education at distinguished Universities, have international experience and numerious publications in their fields. It furthermore provides its students the opportunity to specialize in areas such as Strategic management, Marketing, Accounting and Finance. Pursuing a minor or double major with another department is an opportunity we offer to all interested and qualifying students. 25 percent of the courses in our curriculum are elective courses. How long is the compulsory internship?

The compulsory internship program requires all of our senior students to complete a 40 days of full time work at a company during their last semester.  There are also voluntary internship options for interested students through the year for which the social security payment are made the University. The students who will apply to companies for internships need to fill out the “Internship Application Form” and submit it to the Faculty Registrar’s Office to have it signed by the Dean. With the signed “Internship Application Form" the students applies to the companies via “Internship Approval Form”. Once the students are accepted for their internships by a company, they need to turn in the stamped and signed “Internship Approval Form” to the Faculty Registrar’s Office. One copy of this document is delivered to our department’s Internship Coordinator. What should a Business Administration student pay attention for when deciding an internship company?

The companies our students choose internship are local, multinational companies or start-ups that have or will have influencial roles in the Turkish and/or  Global Economy. The biggest contribution of the internship program is by giving students an opportunity to see&use theoritical information given them during their courses in real work environment. This prepares students for their professional work life in the most effective way.

Should the Business Administration student find his/her own internship company or can he/she get support in finding the company from the department?

Our students usually find their internship positions themselves. They can also contact Yeditepe University Career and Individual Development Office for receiving support. The Career and Individual Development Office acts as a liaison office. They post job and internship announcements of companies that cooperate with our University at their web site and send applicant students’ CVs to these companies.

Can I prefer another country for internship?

As a Business Administration student, you can do your compulsory internship abroad. For this, you can benefit from the internship opportunities offered by Erasmus program or you can do your compulsory internship abroad through organizations such as "Work and Travel".

Is it possible to make double majors (ÇAP) in the Business Administration program?

Students of the Department of Business Administration have the opportunity to make double majors / departments with the departments of the Faculty of Economy & Administrative Sciences and certain departments of other faculties.

The double major program must have at least 30 credits in addition to the total credit of the major program, provided that both major courses meet the total credit hours required for graduation and other requirements of these programs. The double major program can be applied at the earliest third and at the latest fifth semester of the registered program (Department of Business Administration).

In order to accept a student's double major application:

The student should have successfully completed all courses taken in the major program (Department of Business Administration) of which it is registered until the period of application

At the time of application for a double major program, the GPA of the major program (Department of Business Administration) must be at least 3.00.

In order to start the double major program with a scholarship, the student's GPA must be 3.25 out of 4.00.

The double major program must have a placement score of not less than the base score of the relevant year.

The student must be successful in the aptitude test for the admission of students to the double major diploma program.

No more than one major program can be registered at the same time. However, at the same time, student can register for the minor program with a second major diploma. The student in the double major program can transfer to the second major diploma program when the major program provides the conditions in accordance with the transition provisions within the higher education institution.

During the double major education, the student's CGPA can be reduced to 2.50 for one time only. If the GPA falls below 2.50 for the second time, the student is dismissed from the second major diploma program. Students who do not take courses from the double major program for two consecutive semesters are deleted from the second major program.

In order to graduate from the second major program, the CGPA must be at least 2.70 and the graduation requirements of the programs must be fulfilled. The second major diploma is given to the student who continues the double major program if student graduated from the first major program.

Students who have completed the major program but who are missing from the second major program can be extended for a maximum of two semesters upon the decision of the board of directors of the faculty where the second major program is located. However, if an extension is required in double major programs where credit load is intensive, an additional two semesters can be extended. A second degree diploma is given to the students who have the right to graduate from the undergraduate program and have completed the double major program.

Is there any possibility to make minors in the Business Administration program?

The minor program must have at least 21 credits of course load in addition to the major courses. The minor program can be applied at the earliest third and sixth semesters of the registered program (Department of Business Administration). Business Administration has minor degree agreements almost with all departments at the university.

In order to be admitted to a minor program:

Students must have successfully completed all courses taken in the major program (Department of Business Administration) until the time of application

At the time of application for the minor program, the GPA of the major program (Department of Business Administration) must be at least 2.50

In order to apply for a scholarship, the applicants must have a GPA of 3.00 out of 4.

No more than one second major program can be registered at the same time. However, at the same time, you can register for the minor program with a second major diploma.

In order for the student to attend the minor program, the GPA of the major program (Department of Business Administration) must be at least 2.30. Students who fail to meet this requirement will be dismissed from the minor program. Students who do not take courses from the minor program for two consecutive semesters are dismissed from the minor program.

In order to receive a minor certificate, the GPA of the major (Department of Business Administration) must be at least 2.30. It is given. Students who have completed the major program (Department of Business Administration) and who are missing from the minor program can be extended for a maximum of two semesters by the decision of the board of directors of the faculty in which the minor program is located. Students who obtain the right to graduate from the undergraduate program (Department of Business Administration) and successfully complete the minor program are awarded a minor certificate.

How can I open up to the world with the Erasmus / Exchange program?

Which types of scholarships are offered at Yeditepe University Business Administration program? / Is there a possibility that the scholarship will be dropped?

"In the YKS Guide

o        the scholarship which will be provided to the students placed in a full scholarship program covers the full tuition fee.

o        the scholarship which will be provided to the students placed in a 50% scholarship program covers half of the tuition fee.

o        the scholarship which will be provided to the students placed in a 25% scholarship program covers a quarter of the tuition fee.

Scholarships and discounts also cover the length of time that can be spent in the Compulsory Foreign Language Preparatory Programs as well as the student’s regular undergraduate study (10 semesters for 4-year-programs, 12 semesters for 5-yearprograms and 14 semesters for 6-year-programs) regardless of academic achievement.

For those who attend a double major program while studying in any scholarship or discount program, one semester is added to this term.

Students admitted to Yeditepe University may become eligible to receive an Academic Merit Scholarship based on the principles determined by the University Boards. Depending upon a student's ranking in the respective term, the scholarship covers tuition fees for the following academic semester to the extent shown below:

o   First in their program are paid 75% of their tuition in the following year

o   Second in their program are paid 50% of their tuition in the following year

o   Third in their program are paid 25% of their tuition in the following year.

 

•        An Athletic Scholarship is a %50 scholarship for the relevant academic year including the Foreign Language Preparatory Program. It is valid for

o        Students who are accepted to the University sports team in the areas of Basketball, Volleyball and Handball

o        students participating in national sports events in the name of the University

The Athletic Scholarship is discontinued if the student,

•        fails to achieve a GPA of at least 2,00 out of 4,00,

•        is subject to a disciplinary action,

•        is removed from the team by the coach or the trainer either because of the student’s lack of discipline, inadequate performance, or permanent injury

•        who is involved in individual sports is twice consecutively not invited to the National Team.

However, the Athletic scholarship is reinstated if the student achieves the required GPA and athletic performance again.

Can Yeditepe University Business Administration program students get more than one scholarship at the same time?

Students can benefit from only one scholarship offer; those who become eligible for more than one scholarship are allowed to benefit from the highest one.

What qualifications should I have to study in the Business Administration program?

The Business Administration allows you to specialize in areas such as Management, Marketing, Finance, Accounting  and Entrepreneurship, depending on your interests and career goals. Candidates who want to study in the Business Administration should be dynamic individuals who are open to improvement and self-confident, have strong social skills, entrepreneurial and leadership spirit. Can I get a job immediately after graduation from the Business Administration program?

Is it possible to undergraduate/ vertical transfer to Yeditepe University Business Administration program?

Three ways of lateral transfer is possible at the university: Intra-Transfer (Within the Institution), Inter-Transfer Based on GPA (Between Institutions), and Transfer Based on the OSYM Placement Score. Transfers within the institution can be done to any undergraduate program at the university provided the requirements announced annually are met. Internal Lateral Transfers cannot be made to the first and last two semesters of the undergraduate program. To be able to apply for lateral transfer, central placement score of the student which is valid for the score type of the program he/she wishes to be transferred, must not be lower than the lowest undergraduate programs of Universities he wants to be transferred within the country.                                    

The time spent on study other than the language preparatory class prior to transfer is included to the period of study. Thus, for a student who is transferred from a four year undergraduate program to another four year undergraduate program, total period of study in two programs cannot be longer than seven years. For five and six year programs, this period is determined as eight and nine years respectively.

The second way of lateral transfer is Inter-Transfer Based on GPA (Between Institutions). Rules and Regulations regarding Inter-Transfer Based on GPA is annually announced on the university website during June. For details, Lateral Transfer section on the website should be visited.

The third way of lateral transfer is Intra- and Inter-Institutional Transfer Based on the OSYM Placement Score). Rules and Regulations regarding this type of transfer is announced on the university website twice a year: in June and January. The university accepts students via vertical transfer. You can get information on the quotas and scores from the vertical transfer guide published by OSYM in July every year.

What are the accommodation / dormitory opportunities for the students who live far away from Istanbul?

"Our dormitories are located in our Yeditepe University campus which is in Ataşehir at the center of Istanbul. It has a capacity of 3.126 beds. While continuing your university education in Istanbul in our fully equipped campus built on an area of 123,000 m2, you can take advantage of our dormitory facilities in the campus.

Yeditepe University Student Hotel Principles:

The majority of dormitory rooms are for two persons. All of the rooms come equipped with; a bathroom, mini fridge, desk, chair, bookshelf, mirrored wardrobe and other equipment made of fireproof material. There is also a 24-hour internet connection.

Students staying in the dormitory can benefit from the 24-hour uninterrupted information center services, especially the Social Facilities, Restaurant, Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pool, Fitness Center, Squash Hall, Sauna and Turkish Bath.

 

Which department should I study to be an entrepreneur?

Business Administration Departments of universities is one of the most appropriate departments for our young friends who want to become entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship course is a compulsory course for our students. There are also fundamental courses in the curriculum of the department which are marketing, finance, business law, organizational behavior and accounting. These courses provide a holistic perspective for our students who want to embrace entrepreneurship as a lifestyle. In addition, our students will be able to concentrate their own interests with elective courses in the entrepreneurship field. Thus, they will quickly climb the first steps of their entrepreneurial careers and implement their innovative enterprise.

What does KOSGEB entrepreneurship course provides to students?

We aim to introduce our students to the entrepreneurship ecosystem as much as possible and to ensure that they receive financial support for their initiatives within the scope of our entrepreneurship(KOSGEB) course that is provided as an elective course. For this purpose, our students receive traditional entrepreneurship certificates via e-government in Turkey, and have the opportunity to meet important actors in the entrepreneurship ecosystem and to receive mentorship. 'Traditional Entrepreneurship Training' that has a suitable program for topics of 'Entrepreneurship Support Program' is provided in entrepreneurship (KOSGEB) course with KOSGEB. At the end of the course, students can get a certificate by taking the KOSGEB exam via e-government in Turkey. These certificate holders will be able to benefit from KOSGEB Traditional Entrepreneurship grant support for two years if they establish their businesses.

Which courses should I take to start a career in auditing?

A career preferred by a great number of our business students is the Audit field. Our TIDE (Turkish Internal Audit Institute) Seminars course is conducted with the leading names of the internal audit world, thus preparing our students to pursue a career in the field of internal audit. In addition to our compulsory accounting and finance courses, we also have auditing courses that they can take as elective courses.

What is the KalDer Quality Certificate program?

Within the scope of the Quality Management Certificate Program conducted by Yeditepe University and KalDer within the Department of Business Administration, our students who have completed the BBA 414 Total Quality Management, BBA 416 Quality Assurance Systems and BBA 418 EFQM elective courses are entitled to receive certificates.

How can I apply to the University of North Carolina, Wilmington Double Degree program and what does it provide for me?

The Business Department has a dual degree program with the University of North Carolina Wilmington. When making your choices for this program, you need to decide and make your choice accordingly. Our students enrolled in this program are entitled to receive diplomas from both universities by completing the first 2 years at Yeditepe University and the last 2 years in the United States. In addition, since they graduated from the United States, they also have the chance to work there for 1 year thanks to practical training.
